I grew up with three brothers at home. I am the middle child, so I have always been the mediator when it comes to conflict. I think having three brothers offered me a unique perspective on life. I learned how to get along with others and how to deal with multiple people living in close quarters. I think having multiple siblings was a blessing. I always had someone that was willing to play video games, catch, or hang out. In the photo below, I am standing in the middle left.

I recently went on vacation to Hawaii with my family over the break. My older brother and his wife live there, so it was nice to spend time with them. Here is a photo of my family and I celebrating Christmas in Hawaii.

I think that there is a lot to be said when it comes to introducing yourself to other people. I am not too sure what else to include in my post, but I am confident that I will draw ideas from others in the class. I hope that I am able to revisit this post in the future and add more to offer a better glimpse into my life. For now, I will leave you with this brief introduction about who I am.
Nice to meet you, Jake! Congratulations on your acceptance into OU's Dental School. I hear it is really tough to get accepted, so that is wonderful. Unlike you, I am an only child. I am really jealous that you had siblings to play with around the house as a kid. While I am an only child, I do have a dog, Pookie, that I have had since I was 8. I suppose she is like my sister!
ReplyDeleteHi Jake! Congrats on getting into dental school! My cousin is a dentist and he really enjoys it! That is so cool that your brother lives in Hawaii, I bet your breaks are never boring. Like you, I also like being in the great outdoors. I used to go camping with my family and friends and it was always a blast! I don't get to be outdoors as much these days (mainly because it's cold) and college keeps me busy but I do talk walks outside and hang out with my dog at the dog park when I go home. I agree with you about home offering all the simplicities. Every time I go home I like to put my technology away and spend time with the family. Well anyways, it was nice meeting you!
ReplyDeleteHey Jake! Congratulations on getting into Dental School! That is not an easy task and I hope to do so one day as well. I bet Christmas in Hawaii was a blast. I also bet it was nice to see your brother there since it is so far away. I remember seeing you in Mythology and Folklore last semester so I'm glad you're taking this as well with me.
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS on your dental school plans, Jake: how great! That is the best kind of update to your Fall Introduction. Now you can just enjoy the Spring semester and all that is has to offer!
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean you will be living up in Oklahoma City? I know that by being up in the city, the Health Sciences Center is able to serve so many more people than they could in Norman, but I feel badly that it's almost like a separate school even though it is part of OU. I know they have all kinds of great events and such up there because of all the stuff I see go by at Twitter.
Anyway, congratulations again on such a good outcome for all your hard work, and I am looking forward to seeing what you will do with this semester's storytelling adventure!
Hey Jake!
ReplyDeleteI can definitely relate to being the mediator of the family. Even though I know the middle child is typically the mediator, in my family that role fell on me, the youngest. I can be really fun because you get along with everyone, but really annoying because you end up getting caught in the crossfire of your siblings' arguments.
That is so fun that you got to spend Christmas in Hawaii! I've always wanted to go there.
Random note, but my roommate/best friend Elizabeth Bagwell is also from Ada! Aren'y you guys literally next door neighbors? Anyway, what a small world. Can't wait to read your stories!
Hi Jake! Congratulations on getting into OU's Dental Program! You are going to do great! Like you, I spent my summer touring and finishing up my applications for Physical Therapy school. It was a pain, but it all paid off! I love how you ended your post because I 100% do that as well. Once I see what other people say, it makes me realize all that I forgot in my own post and makes me want to go back and add more. I am so excited to follow you through this class!
ReplyDeleteHello Jake. Congratulations on almost getting you Bachelor’s degree and getting into OU’s dental school. Your time at home sounds nice and relaxing. I have 3 siblings as well and am a middle child, but two of them are girls. Having one brother was more than enough growing up for me. I have always wanted to go to Hawaii and hope you had a great Christmas there.
ReplyDeleteHi Jake!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you got accepted into the dental program! I am not gifted with science at all so I'm glad there are people like you who it comes naturally to! I can imagine that it was difficult to interview at different dental schools and being unsure where you'd end up. I'm about to experience that with applying for jobs.
Hi Jake,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on getting into dental school here at OU! I bet you are pretty excited to move on to post undergrad education. I'm very impressed that you have attended every OU game since you were 9. That is an impressive streak! I am the mediator of my family as well, although I am the youngest in mine. I have 4 siblings and learning to live with them was quite a hassle as well.
Hey Jake! That is so awesome that you will be attending Dental School after graduation! I have a few friends that have been through dental school and I seriously admire you for embarking on a journey like that! I'm sure the difficulty will all be worth it in the end! Also, it is so cool that you grew up with a few siblings! I'm sure you all had so many fun times growing up and that you had a blast catching up over the break! Good luck on your last semester of undergrad!
ReplyDeleteHello Jake! One of my roommates when I first came to OU was in the dental program. It's a tough one, so best of luck to you! Also, having siblings is quite the experience. I've only got one brother, but I've also got a sister, and they've been a handful my entire life, but that's coming from the youngest' perspective.
ReplyDeleteHey Jake! Congratulations for doing the dental program because I heard how hard it is to do that program. I was going to study for dental but it didn't work out for me so I did business and now major is MIS. I also have a sibling, one brother and he is my twin but I am 15 minutes older than him.
ReplyDeleteHi Jake! What wonderful pictures! You have my respect; dental school is not an easy accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteI have three younger siblings myself, and I can't imagine how different my life would be without them. I think they make me a better person because I know they are paying attention to what I do, and what I deem important. My middle brother is, like you, the mediator in almost all disputes. It's funny how that works.
So nice to meet you! Good luck in dental school!
Hey Jake!
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I love the design and layout of your blog! Also, I think the personal photo you added to your introduction was a nice touch. Congratulations on getting into dental school and graduating from OU this spring! Further, I hope you are having a great semester and I can’t wait to explore the rest of your blog!
Hey Jake! Wow I can't imagine having three brothers. I've got two half siblings, but they're much older and we've never really lived in the same house. I was basically an only child, so I spent a lot of time playing alone. I remember begging my parents for a sibling, but I guess it wasn't in the cards. Also, congrats on dentistry school! I've heard that's a competitive field, but honestly which path in the medical field isn't? I'm so jealous of your trip to Hawaii. It's at the top of my list of places to travel. Maybe when I'm out of PA school and I've paid off all of those student loans? Fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteHey Jake! I've been to Ada a few times and really enjoyed it. When I was dancing with Oklahoma City Ballet we used to do a few performances of the Nutcracker there every year. It's good to hear that you had the opportunity to explore multiple dental schools and find the best fit for you, and also good to hear OU was the best fit!
ReplyDeleteHi Jake! Congratulations on getting into dental school. I am currently applying to and waiting to hear back from various PA schools, so I understand how challenging of a year you have probably had! It's amazing to see how many pre-health professionals are in this class. I can't wait to read more of your blog posts! Nice to meet you
ReplyDeleteHi Jake!
ReplyDeleteHuge congrats on dental school. I am a pre-med student so I can somewhat relate to the stresses of applying and anticipating a response. Hawaii is so beautiful and although I've never been, I definitely hope to some time in the near future. I hope you have a great rest of the semester!
Hey Jake,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on getting into dental school. That is awesome!! I have also been to Hawaii and it was by far one of my favorite places in the world (behind the Palace on the Prairie ). I too have been a sooner fan for a good part of my life. I am also an outdoors guy and would much rather be outside playing catch than inside playing video games. Have a great semester!!
Hello Jake!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you got into dental school! That's gotta be a great feeling, but also pretty intimidating! I hope everything goes great for you. I too was Sooner born and Sooner bred (my parents said I could go anywhere I want for college, as long as it was OU). I've seen some great games at Owen Field, but also a couple losses I'd like to forget haha. I hope your semester ends well, and your coming time in dental school goes even better (and the next season for OU goes great too!)
Hi Jake! Congrats on getting into dental school! That's awesome! I know it's super competitive and hard to get in, so I'm impressed that you did! I wish I could go to Hawaii, it seems so beautiful and carefree there, and I hope to go sometime in the future. Congrats again and good luck on school!
ReplyDeleteHey Jake! I'm also a senior bio major graduating this May and I'm super pumped. 35 days until graduation, but who's counting? Congrats on getting into dental school, that's really awesome! I was born in Hawaii when my dad was stationed there, but we left when I was only a few months old so unfortunately I don't remember it at all. I hope to get to go visit sometime soon! Good luck in dental school!
ReplyDeleteHey Jake!
ReplyDeleteI have three brothers as well and am also a middle child. It definitely is a different life being in the middle of all that, but unfortunately none of my brothers live somewhere cool like Hawaii! I plan on going to nursing school so I am also in a bunch of science classes. It is super cool that you are going to Dental School!
Hi Jake, it is nice to meet you! I am also from Ada (I graduated from Latta High School) and am surprised we have never meet before considering how small and quaint the town is! Nevertheless, it is nice to meet a fellow Ada person who is also in this course. Huge congratulations on getting into OU's dental school, what a great achievement! Best of luck on finals and dental school! :)
